I am the author of The Baby Matrix: Why Freeing Our Minds From Outmoded Thinking About Parenthood & Reproduction Will Create a Better World, Families of Two, and Finding Fulfillment From the Inside Out.
Families of Two was one of the first books to get “real talk from real people” on marriages with no children by choice, and it has received national and international attention. Since its publication, I have talked with hundreds of childfree men and women from all walks of life. This blog continues the childfree dialogue.
Also since its publication, I’ve been digging into why society finds this choice hard to fully accept, and this led me to uncover a specific set of beliefs that has had a deep hold on societies for generations, even though most people remain unaware of it.
This set of beliefs is called “pronatalism”, and it is what The Baby Matrix is about. It looks at the historical origins of pronatalism, takes a hard look at seven pronatalist assumptions, and offers alternative mindsets that not only reflect reality, but promote true reproductive freedom and reproductive responsibility in today’s world.
This blog digs into this and more–here we also discuss broader sociological and social science topics related to the parenthood decision.
All topics dovetail with my long standing interest and savvy in behavioral sciences, psychology, and communications. You’ll find books on these kinds of topics and more at my book review site, LiveTrue Books. This site features books that delve into the many ways to “live true” to self, others and our world. Read reviews and weigh in on your take on books in the LiveTrue collection.
In addition to writing books, I help organizations and individuals reach their writing and speaking goals. See more about this work at my Laura Carroll website.
May this blog continue to serve as the go-to spot for informing and educating people about one of the most important choices we make in life and so much more~Please join me!
